Nuclear Medicine Center

íNuclear Medicine is a medical specialty center which uses safe, painless, and cost-effective techniques both to image the body and treat disease. Nuclear medicine imaging is unique in that it documents organ function, structure and quantification, in contrast to diagnostic radiology which is based upon anatomy. It is a way to gather medical information that may otherwise be unavailable, require surgery, or necessitate more expensive diagnostic tests.

Nuclear medicine uses very small amounts of radioactive materials to diagnose and treat disease. These radiopharmaceuticals are substances that are attracted to specific organs, bones, or tissues. When introduced into the body, they produce gamma emissions. A special type of camera, a Gamma camera, is used to transform these provide information about the area of the body being imaged.

The Gamma Camera is the basic instrument used to produce a Nuclear Medicine image. The Arab Nuclear Medicine & Bone Densitometry Center at specialty hospital has the latest Dual Head SPECT Gamma Camera. This system, the first of its kind in Jordan, performs all types of Nuclear Medicine procedures from the whole body and planar imaging to SPECT for cardiology, oncology and neurology imaging.
