The hospital’s department of urology and kidney surgery performed the first robotic-assisted procedure—a radical prostatectomy—with outstanding success. The operation was led by Dr. Tareq Al-Hammouri, Consultant Urologist and Robotic Surgeon at The Specialty Hospital.
The procedure demonstrated exceptional surgical precision while resulting in minimal blood loss. Unlike conventional surgery, where blood transfusion is often required for similar cases, no transfusion was necessary. The robotic approach also enabled meticulous preservation of the surrounding nerves and healthy tissues, significantly enhancing the patient’s recovery. The patient resumed oral intake within hours after surgery and was discharged the following morning in excellent condition.
The surgical team also successfully performed a robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy to remove a kidney tumor. The advanced robotic system allowed for highly precise tumor excision while preserving the healthy kidney tissues, helping maintain long-term renal function. The patient experienced a smooth recovery and was discharged the next day in excellent health.
