The Specialty Hospital introduced a new and advanced technology for patients suffering from spinal disc herniation. The device used is called Joimax made in Germany and it’s the only device of its kind in Jordan which can be used to remove the lumbar cartilage using minimally invasive endoscopic procedure. This achievement has been accomplished by a Jordanian medical team that was led by the neurosurgeons Dr. Taher Janbek, Dr. Ali Al-Jamal and the neurologist Dr. Haitham Dbabneh. And in the presence of a German medical delegation headed by the neurosurgery consultant Dr. Eric Traupe.
The procedure is done using a fine needle with a diameter that doesn't exceed 5mm through endoscopy to reach herniated disc. As Dr. Jamal Shroof the head of Anesthesia department clarified that this procedure can be done under local or general anesthesia. The procedure duration is around 1 hour and a half and the patient can be discharged within 4 hours and can get back to his normal daily activities within days.
During this month more than 25 procedures were done and all patients were discharged in a good health and no disc related pain. This procedure is considered very safe as every step is monitored through C- arm X- ray and endoscopy camera. Dr. Hani Brosk Al-Kurdi the medical director, stated that the Specialty Hospital is always keen and pioneer in introducing new and advanced technologies, to assure the best, safest and most current state of the art treatment options for the patients.
