ICU, CCU

Our ICU/CCU department is one of the biggest in the Middle East. It consists of 24 fully equipped beds and is supervised by well-trained, specialized healthcare providers.

Using state-of-the-art facilities and isolation units with the best medical equipment, such as hypothermia-treating devices, plasma exchange, CRRT, and ECMO.

The department consists of three subdivisions:

Intensive Care Unit (ICU):

It consists of 8 beds, equipped with central patient monitoring, cardiac monitors, mechanical ventilators, and central O₂. We receive different types of patients, including: motor vehicle accidents, strokes, diabetic ketoacidosis, and major surgeries.

Coronary Care Unit (CCU):

It consists of 11 beds and manages cardiac-related patients such as: myocardial infarctions, cardiac arrhythmias, open-heart surgeries, and cardiac catheterization. The unit is well prepared and equipped with state-of-the-art machines, mechanical ventilation, and central oxygen apparatus.

Intermediate Care Unit:

It consists of 5 beds. It manages patients who need close monitoring and observation, and serves as step-down beds.

The department is equipped with many advanced and sophisticated machines, such as:

  • Echo machines and transesophageal echo that are used to diagnose cardiac function, valvular lesions, and clots.
  • CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy): It is the latest technology in biomedics, which can replace the function of the kidneys in cases that do not tolerate hemodialysis, and in other cases such as sepsis and severe acidosis.
  • Some beds are prepared for hemodialysis that can be done inside the unit, eliminating the need to transfer the patients and providing continuous patient monitoring.
  • Isolation rooms: The intensive care unit has 4 isolation rooms (positive and negative), which are designed for infectious diseases and to control them effectively.
  • The electrical backup, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), which functions in case of electrical power shutdown.
  • Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS): that archives and stores diagnostic radiology documents.
  • Hypothermia machines that lower the patient’s temperature after CPR and in malignant hyperthermia.

The department is staffed with qualified physicians and nurses, in addition to:

  • Qualified physicians to follow up patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year round.
  • Well-trained and qualified nurses for the follow-up and care of patients.
  • A clinical pharmacist who reviews the patients’ medication charts, follows them, and educates them regarding their medication use.
  • A nutritionist who follows the patients’ nutritional status and needs according to their condition.
  • A social worker who follows patients and their families who need support as part of the comprehensive care plan.
