Hemodialysis

Hemodialysis

The Hemodialysis Unit was inaugurated under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II. It is considered the only unit of its kind in Jordan and the Middle East in terms of available equipment and capabilities. The unit has received several certificates of recognition from both local and international institutions.

The unit contains 20 advanced dialysis machines manufactured by Fresenius, model 4008S.

In addition, there are 4 machines in the intensive care unit for cases that cannot be transferred to the dialysis unit. Special equipment is also available for treating children under the age of twelve, and pediatric consultants supervise their care in the unit.

All dialysis machines have been upgraded with more advanced devices to facilitate monitoring of the dialysis process, such as:

  • Fresenius 4008S class machines with full options, including blood pressure monitoring and Kt/V monitoring.
  •  Nipro Surdial 55 Plus machines (full option).

The unit applies the highest standards of safety and infection control. Two machines are dedicated for Hepatitis C patients, and a separate room equipped with a dedicated machine is assigned for Hepatitis B cases. Screening tests are conducted for:

  • Hepatitis C antibodies.
  • HIV.
  • Hepatitis B antigen.

These tests are performed for every patient at the first visit to the unit and every three months for regular patients.

The unit is staffed with highly qualified medical and technical personnel with extensive experience in nephrology and plasma exchange procedures.

The unit has also purchased one of the most advanced devices for therapeutic apheresis and component separation, the Fenwal Amicus™ Separator, which meets international standards and delivers excellent results in plasma exchange, platelet collection, and stem cell procedures.

What is Dialysis?

Dialysis is defined as a process that removes toxins and excess fluids from the body and regulates electrolyte balance. This procedure is performed for patients suffering from chronic or acute kidney failure and must be continued for life unless a kidney transplant becomes available and the patient’s condition permits.
