Normal Nursery & Neonate Intensive Care Unit


The Unit provides comprehensive medical and nursing services for newborn infants, premature cases, and their families over 24 hours to ensure the highest level of efficiency and safety, by a qualified, trained, and highly efficient staff.

The most encountered cases:

The NICU department consists of a highly qualified and educated staff that is able to professionally handle a variety of cases. It is single-handedly the biggest NICU in the private sector in Jordan, and one of the biggest NICU departments in the whole private sector. The NICU is well equipped with the latest technologically innovative machines. The cases presented include (newborns, premature infants, respiratory distress syndrome, neonatal jaundice, surgical cases, congenital abnormalities, transient tachypnea of the newborn, congenital pneumonia, sepsis).

The major procedures that are conducted in the department:

  • Insertion of endotracheal tube.
  • Insertion of umbilical catheter.
  • Insertion of chest tube.
  • Insertion of Foley’s catheter.
  • Intravenous peripheral cannulation.
  • Blood sampling.
  • Blood exchange.
  • Surfactant administration.
  • O2 therapy.
  • Hearing test.
  • Intensive phototherapy.
  • Health education for the mothers.

Devices used in the department:

Nasal high flow device (Vapotherm):

Vapotherm humidified high flow nasal cannula is used to treat the symptoms of the following diseases:

Respiratory distress syndrome.

  • TTN.
  • Post open-heart surgery patients.
  • Chronic lung disease of prematurity.
  • Bronchiolitis.
  • Post extubation from mechanical ventilation.
  • Congenital pneumonia.

Intensive phototherapy device:

Intensive phototherapy is the most efficient treatment for severe cases of neonatal jaundice to avoid blood exchange.

Health education materials:

  • Breastfeeding:

We are distributing breastfeeding brochures to mothers to encourage natural breastfeeding and highlight the benefits of breastfeeding, the most important factors that increase milk production, and the proper way to breastfeed the newborn, as well as to solve the problems that mothers face during breastfeeding.

  • Neonatal screening:

Neonatal screening brochures are distributed to parents to inform them about the potential problems their newborns are at risk of experiencing, in order to detect these problems early before reaching later stages of disease progression, so that diagnosis and treatment begin in the early stages, such as (hypothyroidism, phenylketonuria, G6PD deficiency, cystic fibrosis, galactosemia, congenital adrenal hyperplasia).
