Gynecology & Obstetrics Section

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department is one of the leading departments at the Specialty Hospital. Due to its unique nature, the hospital is committed to providing the highest standard of medical care for both mother and fetus, while ensuring patient comfort and privacy. Each year, resident physicians join the department under an officially recognized residency program accredited by the Jordanian and Arab Medical Councils. The educational program is supervised by a distinguished team of experienced consultants, and the residents contribute to providing medical care that is continuously updated and monitored to keep pace with the latest advancements in obstetrics and gynecology.

The department encompasses various specialized units catering to women at different stages of life, including the Antenatal Care Unit, Labor and Delivery Unit, and Postnatal Care Unit. It also provides the capability to perform a wide range of daily and major gynecological surgeries. The department maintains direct coordination with the Emergency Department, Radiology Department, and outpatient clinics.

Labor and Postnatal Unit:

The Labor and Delivery Unit forms the core of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. It provides comprehensive, continuous care for both mother and fetus during labor, staffed by trained physicians, midwives, and nurses under the supervision of a team of specialized consultants.

The unit’s facility includes multiple private delivery rooms where mothers are attended to from the moment of admission through all stages of labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum monitoring. The highest standards of health and safety are maintained, with advanced medical equipment for continuous maternal and fetal monitoring through centralized monitoring systems. Skilled physicians and midwives are available around the clock to manage all critical and emergency cases under direct specialist supervision.

The unit adheres to globally recognized protocols for labor induction, labor progression monitoring, and judicious use of induction agents, based on the patient’s clinical condition, with continuous maternal and fetal assessment. Policies and protocols are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect the latest scientific and medical advances. These protocols ensure optimal interventions for critical situations such as postpartum hemorrhage or preeclampsia.

The department also provides the latest anesthesia techniques for labor and gynecological surgeries, including regional (spinal/epidural) anesthesia commonly used in cesarean sections and natural deliveries. This allows the mother to remain fully conscious while the lower part of her body is numbed. Highly qualified anesthesiologists are available 24/7 to ensure painless delivery.

Additionally, the department employs TAP Block anesthesia, an advanced local anesthetic technique administered in the abdominal wall after cesarean sections or certain gynecological abdominal surgeries. This technique effectively reduces postoperative pain, minimizes the need for strong analgesics, accelerates recovery, and enhances patient comfort.

The unit is supported by dedicated operating rooms for cesarean sections, fully equipped to meet the highest health and safety standards. Postnatal wards are under the direct supervision of on-duty physicians who continuously monitor maternal health and intervene promptly when necessary.

The department also manages high-risk pregnancies and their complications, in coordination with other specialized medical departments, providing appropriate medical care tailored to each patient’s needs.

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, in line with the Specialty Hospital’s policies, adheres to the “Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative,” promoting early breastfeeding and immediate mother-infant bonding. The unit is equipped, in direct coordination with the Neonatal and NICU team, with newborn resuscitation equipment to ensure that every newborn receives immediate, safe care from the moment of birth before transfer to the neonatal unit.
