Infection Prevention & Control Dept. (PCID)


The Hospital is proud to have a specialized Department for the Prevention and Control of Infection, headed by a highly trained and experienced Infectious Disease Specialist, and staffed by experienced and certified Infection Preventionist. Together they form the PCI team, which works closely with a regularly held group of professionals in the Infection Control Committee, responsible for hospital policies that pertain to the prevention and control of infections.

The Infection Prevention and Control Department (PCID) at the Specialty Hospital Protocols – based on International guidelines from WHO, CDC, and Local Health Authorities-  for improving patient care and staff well-being by identifying and reducing the risk of endemic and healthcare related infection to patients, staff, visitors.

The PCID works diligently to promote high levels of awareness for health care providers, patients and visitors about the importance of Infection Prevention and Control measures making them a routine part of their daily practice.

The PCID works to provide a safe and healthy working environment for the employees providing the highest levels of quality care.

The PCID  is responsible for the development and coordination of continuous  education programs for the hospital staff in all important issues in infection prevention and control for examples:

  1. The importance of hands cleaning and disinfection in reducing hospital acquired infections and preventing the spread of bacteria, in accordance with WHO guidelines for hand hygiene, with emphasis on the 5 critical moments.
  2. Active daily surveillance of patients with infectious diseases to isolate them when needed according to our policies.
  3. Observe and ensure the cleaning and disinfecting for the patients environment.
  4. Active employee health program and immunizations.
  5. PCID takes an active role in monitoring overuse  of antibiotics and the resulting rise of MDR bacteria in hospital environments, with the aim of controlling both. Daily results of bacterial and fungal clinical isolates susceptibilities to Antibiotics and antifungals are collected from the Microbiology lab. And entered into a special Data base and analyzed regularly to stay abreast with patterns of Susceptibility and resistance in the hospital environment.
  6. The PCID publishes  on a regular basis a hospital wide Antibiogram and, in cooperation with the Clinical pharmacists, guidelines for antibiotic use –based on hospital Data.

Infection control team contribute to overall safetyof healthcare and participate in Safety committee meetings , especially the safe handling and disposal of medical waste starting from segregation and transport and final treatment in a way that assures safety for patients,  employees and the environment. 

The infection control follow-up the latest developments related to scientific issues and follow-up of infection control as demonstrated by the CDC and World Health Organization on the procedures for controlling infection and dealing with cases of infectious and applying such procedures inside the hospital, after discussing them between the members of the infection control department at the hospital and agreeing on the possibility of applying and including them in the hospital's policies.

One of IPC goals in the hospital is disseminate health awareness about the infectious diseases and the necessity of following up the health practices in the outside environment, through the educational seminars and lectures and brochures. The management of the specialty hospital and IPC Department stay aligned with the ministry of health.
